This past weekend was the 2008 DPVA State Convention. For those of you who were not able to join us, you missed a great time. You can see some photos here. One of the things I took away from the Convention is that we are a party united. There has been much said in the media regarding whether or not the Democratic party is divided as a result of the long primary. All I can tell you is that I didn't see any evidence of a split. Yes, there were two caucuses, but, there was a Unity Celebration immediately following the Convention that was well attended.

Let us continue the "United We Stand, Divided We Fall" call right here in the our City. To that end, if you are interested in joining the Obama campaign efforts locally, please post a comment to this message and let me know. Dems Breakfast

This Saturday, June 21st at 9:00 AM at Old Country Buffet, join us for our monthly informal breakfast gathering. This month includes a visit from the Virginia Coordinated Campaign. Learn about their efforts and how we are working together.

"Open Your Eyes" Video and "Get Your Summer Groove On"

This Sunday, June 22nd at 4:00 PM at Fairfax City Regional Library, we will be watching "Can Mr. Smith Get to Washington Anymore?". This is a classic political underdog story comes to life in a suspenseful, fast-paced documentary. This inspiring film tells the story of Jeff Smith, an unlikely and undaunted young candidate as he runs for Congress in Missouri. Further details are available here.

Immediately after the video at 5:30 PM, we will all walk over to Auld Shebeen for our summer kick-off get-together. It's time to Get Your Summer Groove On, and we'll talk about the video and other politics. I'll be a fun and informal occassion -- you'll want to join in even if you can't make the video.

4th of July Parade

Friday, July 4th at 9:30 AM, we will gather for last minute preparations for our Independence Day parade float. This year's Dems float promises to be the best ever. Initial preparations are now underway, so if you would like to join in, just reply back and let me know. We'll also be making final touches at our July 3rd Committee meeting.
